A wealth management firm had reached a crossroads. Their outdated virtual desktop setup was rigid, slow and no longer capable of supporting evolving security, compliance and remote-work needs.
The firm’s previous MSP had hosted everything in a way that created performance issues, limited scalability and offered little visibility into overall costs. They needed a modern, cloud-first environment that could scale with their business.
Sourcepass stepped in with a clear mission — build a flexible, secure Microsoft Azure foundation for an always-on workforce. According to Sourcepass’s Director of Engineering Robbie Swiebel, the stakes were high: “Two other companies tried this project and both failed.”
How Pax8 Helped
Sourcepass dove right in, designing a Microsoft Azure architecture aligned with the firm’s regulatory and operational requirements. Using the Pax8 Marketplace, Sourcepass provisioned Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 licensing and built out domain controllers, app servers and initial Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) hosts. Once tenant access was granted, the true scope became clear: the client had nearly 200 users and significantly more data than disclosed. “A lot of our design and building on the Microsoft Azure infrastructure was on the fly because we didn’t even know how much data they had,” Swiebel said.
Over a single weekend, Swiebel’s team migrated three terabytes of data through a secure site-to-site connection and rebuilt the client’s key applications inside Microsoft Azure. Intune was deployed for company-owned devices, while AVD enabled secure access for remote and personal-device users. SentinelOne and Acronis Cyber Protect added layers of security necessary for the financial industry.
Pax8 supported escalation efforts as new technologies like Global Secure Access were rolled out. Swiebel shared, “deploying Global Secure Access for the first time in a live client environment required significant time and attention to make it work smoothly with the firm’s existing security stack. And Pax8 was there to help with the process.”
