The new offering from Microsoft – Teams Premium – builds on the current Teams experience, incorporating additional features to help make Teams meetings even more personalised, intelligent, and secure. We go through the list of features, including virtual appointments and webinars.

What’s new

It’s pretty

Teams Premium lets you extend your organisation’s brand and company culture across meetings with branding, organisation backgrounds, and organisation together mode scenes, giving your virtual space a similar look and feel to your physical space.

It’s smart

The use of Artificial Intelligence has ramped up with the ability to make meetings you attend (and miss) more productive and impactful through live translation for captions. The use of AI also removes language barriers – something global enterprises will be glad to have.

AI also offers intelligent recap features such as smarter recordings with autogenerated chapters, AI-suggested action items, and insights. These tools will let you quickly and easily catch up on any missed meetings where your name was mentioned.

It’s secure

Discussing sensitive issues? Simply apply advanced meeting protections such as Watermark, End-to-end encryption, and Sensitivity labels to prevent the copy and paste of meeting chat to better protect your interests.

It’s streamlined

Deliver a high-quality webinar experience with the ability to streamline event workflows from start to finish. You now have registration waitlists and manual approval available to manage your attendees. On the day, facilitate behind-the-scenes via a virtual green room provided for presenters (separate from attendees) before the event begins, and effectively manage the attendee experience so they only see what you want them to see – shared content and participants brought on-screen.

It’s organised

Manage the end-to-end virtual appointment experience with advanced features such as text reminders and custom branded virtual appointments. There’s also a centralised Virtual Appointment dashboard offering a quick view of schedules, queues, and analytics to help you keep track of key usage insights such as no-shows and wait time information per appointment.

Activate your free trial now

Teams Premium preview is now available – IT admins can enroll in the trial via M365 Admin Center and activate a free trial. Not all Teams Premium features are available in this preview release, but more features will be released throughout the preview period. General availability is scheduled for early February 2023.

Licensing update

At general release, the Teams features listed below will move from Teams licenses to Teams Premium licenses. To allow users to retain access to these features, customers will need to purchase and assign Teams Premium licenses.

Features moving:

  • Live translated captions
  • Timeline markers in Teams meeting recordings for when a user left or joined meetings
  • Custom organisation Together mode scenes
  • Virtual Appointments: SMS notification
  • Virtual Appointments: Organisational analytics in the Teams admin center
  • Virtual Appointments: Scheduled queue view

When Teams Premium becomes generally available to purchase this month, there will be a 30-day grace period for admins to purchase. After the 30-day grace period, users will lose access to features previously available in Teams if their admin has not purchased and assigned Teams Premium licenses.

At release, Teams Premium will be available to purchase worldwide through all Microsoft purchasing channels, including CSP. Commercial, Government, and charity customers with Microsoft 365, Office 365, or Microsoft Teams Essentials (Azure AD) will have the option to use Teams Premium as an add-on license.

NOTE: Microsoft won’t offer an EDU-specific license or EDU discounts for Teams Premium for Education customers.
