With the rise of remote work, small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are seeing an increased need to provide their employees with secure and reliable access to company resources from anywhere. Whether you’re at home or on the go, AWS WorkSpaces solutions provide the right virtual workspace for varied worker types, from any location, allowing for improved IT agility and user experience, while only paying for the infrastructure that you use.

In this blog, we’ll discuss how you can provide a secure, managed Desktop-as-a-Service to your client’s end users with AWS WorkSpaces.

Simplify deployment of cloud-based desktop services

AWS WorkSpaces helps your clients gain efficiency by reducing time spent managing infrastructure while also reducing risks of cyberthreats. SMBs can benefit from the secure virtual desktop environment that WorkSpaces has to offer — all managed by AWS.

AWS WorkSpaces is designed to meet compliance requirements such as HIPPA, PCI DSS, and GDPR and provides data-encryption, multi-factor authentication, and network isolation to protect end-user data. You can create peace of mind for you and your customers in case of a disaster and reduce the risk of downtime with a range of disaster recovery options such as backups, snapshots, and cloning. Use the same tools to manage WorkSpaces that you use to manage on-premise desktops and provision Windows or Linux desktops to users anytime, anywhere, and from any supported device.

As with most organizations, the ability to scale up and down based on changes in demand allows businesses to add or remove virtual machines all without the need for costly hardware investments. For Windows desktops, you can bring your own licenses and applications, or purchase them from the AWS Marketplace for Desktop Apps.

Try it at no cost

As part of the AWS Free Tier, Amazon WorkSpaces offers two standard bundle virtual desktops with 80 GB root and 100 GB user volumes, running in hourly metering mode, for up to 40 hours of combined use per month, for the first three billing cycles.

To get started, take the following steps:

  1. Sign up for an account. You will need an AWS account to deploy Amazon WorkSpaces.
  2. Launch Quick Setup. After selecting WorkSpaces in the AWS Console, launch Quick Setup and select the bundle that best fits your needs.
  3. Customize your WorkSpaces. Customize your deployment for your client’s unique needs with the Getting Started Project, which offers self-serve guidance regarding how to provision and manage Amazon WorkSpaces cloud desktops.
